Learn how to make prints with the solar plate etching method using the sun and water instead of acid – an environmentally friendly technique that Trudy has mastered.
Participants will work with up to 4 images to develop their solarplates and then print and produce a small edition.
Suitable for all levels. Trudy will tap into your pace, your level and your creativity to help you produce a small suite of solarplate prints from a variety of drawing techniques by the end of the day.
There are no limitations to creating unique state works. You are welcome to steer the workshop by bringing along papers, previous work, textured items and set your agenda, or allow Trudy to tap into your pace, your level and your creativity to help you produce a small suite of prints in a variety techniques by the end of the day.
Trudy will discuss:
- Direct Drawing (drawing from still life)
- Subtractive and gestural mark making
- Additive applications (adding organic materials or stencils to the ink surface)
- Discuss ink mixing, papers, plates preparation setting up the press etc.
SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED: Suitable for all levels. Some prior printmaking knowledge would be beneficial but not essential.
INCLUDED: 2 x A5 solar plates, (2 x A4 for more experienced printmakers), printing inks, drawing & painting materials, easy wipes, paper, aqua wipes, trace paper & wet media. Tea, most materials.
NOT INCLUDED: Coffee, drawing journal, accommodation and food. Plenty of food choice in Queenscliff
ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS: Athelstane, Clydesville, Queenscliff and Coastal Holidays, Ruby’s, Seaview, Vue Grand.
Participants must wear protective footwear. Please bring an apron, drawn images and/or photographs for reference, your journal – A4 or A5 sized images to suit the solarplate size you plan to use.

Invoices will be provided on arrival upon request. Payments will be refunded if the class is cancelled. If you are unable to attend, you must notify us at least two weeks prior to the workshop date. The cancellation fee is $100.
