Geoffrey Ricardo is a Melbourne based artist who essentially employs a figurative based narrative language.
Drawing on a heritage of Surrealism and figurative expressionism Geoffrey Ricardo’s work explores personal and broader issues often tinged with humour and a feeling of the absurd.
The images are in one way or another a comment on the human condition. On first encounter the pictures are slightly satirical, comical but underlying are deeper questions for human nature.
With a Post Graduate and Masters of Fine Art in printmaking (Monash University) Geoffrey has also worked as a print assistant with master printer Bill Young, and as a sessional lecturer at Monash University, The Victorian College of the Arts, R.M.I.T and P.I.T. and the CAE.
Geoffrey has held regular solo and group exhibitions since 1990 with the most recent survey exhibition held at Australian Galleries and he is represented in various public and private collections in Australia and overseas.
In 2016 Geoffrey was awarded a $330,000 commission by Hobsons Bay Council. He created A Strange Trail of Beasts, Spirits and Guardians which features eight three-metre tall figures along the 7.5-kilometre trail.
