As an Artist, I am inspired by the relationship between patterns and nature. I love the boldness of linocut and how this medium allows me to make a statement with my work with the combination of bold colours and delicate lines. I use light and shade, depth and contour through my spontaneous use of pattern, line and form. Much of my works explore symmetry by creating mirror image prints to produce abstract patterns when assembled together.
A trip to Vietnam had me Inspired by the Lotus flower, growing prolifically in its natural habitat; it was a constant source of scenery. The Iconic flower rises from the depths of a muddy river, blooms and thrives, which symbolizes the human who rises from the darkness of the world into a new way of thinking and living. It is a symbol of rebirth, growth and purification of spirit. I found this relationship between the lotus’s life cycle and our own Journey in life fascinating. It exudes a sign of strength and hope which propelled me into creating a series of prints.
Working mostly in Linocut, this series contains stand-alone prints a series of 4 exploring the unfolding of the Lotus and patterned pieces assembled together in float mounts.
