Winner of the PPP 2019 receives a prize of: return economy airfares, accommodation, one week of art/print courses, full access with most materials included at The Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, as well as cash valued to $6,000

Entry details

  • The PPP is a biennial, non-acquisitive print prize
  • The entry fee for a single submission (1 print) is $39 inc. gst and is non refundable
  • Where entrants choose to submit additional entries, each additional entry is $26 inc. gst and is non refundable.
  • Entrants must be Australian citizens and/or reside in Australia for 12 months or more
  • Entrants must have completed their entry in the last 24 months (from the deadline of entries – Jun 28, 2019)
  • Entrants must be over the age of 18
  • It is an intaglio focused prize (techniques include drypoint, engraving, etching, mezzotint, aquatint, lino etching)
  • Hand colouring and further print applications acceptable in combination with the intaglio process
  • Finalists’ works to be exhibited framed
  • Entry is available to all printmakers across Australia
  • Paper/print size cannot exceed 56 x 76cm (either portrait or landscape)
  • Entrants must upload two high resolution images for each entry no more than 6mb each (Eg 1 full print image and 1 detail)
  • Images must be high resolution jpg files and a high resolution image available in the event work is selected.
  • All work images must be submitted unframed
  • File name must match: entrant surname-first name- title of work.jpg (Citizen-John-title.jpg)
  • Blurry images will NOT be considered
  • Artwork that does not resemble the files uploaded will be dismissed
  • Entrants unable to submit their work online can print the entry form, terms and conditions, fill and sign all relevant information, and include two images on a usb stick, their payment details (cheque or credit card details with cvc number included), and post to PO Box 320 Queenscliff, Vic 3225 by the submission date
  •  The entrant warrants the work entered is their sole original artwork
  • Entries received after 5pm June 28 will not be accepted
  • Entries will be acknowledged as received when payment transaction is complete
  • Finalist entries may be reproduced in print and online free of charge for QG&W’s promotional and sales purposes


  • Entrants must complete the full online submission form by June 28 2019
  • Between 30-40 works will be chosen as finalists in an online pre-selection process
  • Works chosen in the pre-selection process will form the exhibition
  • The pre-selection process will be directed by Graeme Peebles & the directors of QG&W (Soula & Theo Mantalvanos)
  • The pre-selection director will review the finalist works before the exhibition opens
  • The final judging will be directed by Bill Young & Jason Smith after viewing the exhibition
  • First prize winner title, ‘Winner, PPP 2019’
  • People’s choice winner title, ‘People’s Choice PPP 2019’ as voted by visitors during the exhibition
  • The decision of all the judges is final
  • The judges and gallery directors reserve the right to exhibit or not exhibit any work

First prize

  • Prize must be claimed within 24 months of being awarded
  • Booking of flights, residency and accommodation will be processed by QG&W.
  • Prize not transferrable. Cash remaining (if any) after payment is made on return economy airfares, accommodation, one week of art/print courses with full access at The Scuola Internazionale di Grafica will be paid to the winner


  • An exhibition of the finalists’ works will run for nine weeks at QG&W from Sep 21 – Nov 24
  • Entrants must:
    • ensure their work arrives at QG&W by Sep 6 at 5pm
    • package their work appropriately – no damaged work will be exhibited or considered
    • title, number (as applicable), sign and date their work
    • make their work available for exhibition and sale for the duration of the exhibition
  • Any work remaining after one month of the exhibition – not otherwise organised by QG&W and the entrant, will be left to QG&W’s discretion
  • The winning piece will not be acquired by QG&W and must be available for public sale
  • Upon sale of any artwork QG&W retain 45% of the retail price of the print. Cost of framing to be paid in full to the artist
  • If editions of the winning piece exist, they must also be available for sale exclusively through QG&W during the exhibition and for two months after the exhibition
  • Finalists’ works to be available at QG&W exclusively during the exhibition
  • All work not sold, to be collected by the entrant (unless otherwise organised between QG&W and the entrant)
  • Entrants are responsible for the insurance and transportation of their work to and while at QG&W
  • Any freight or charges in regard to delivery will be at the cost of the entrant
  • QG&W retains 45% commission on the value of the print
  • Votes for the People’s Choice PPP 2019 are filled in person at QG&W via a voting form
  • Maximum votes decides the People’s Choice PPP 2019 winner
  • The People’s Choice PPP 2019 winner will be announced Nov 24 by 5:30pm on our website and via social media after the winner has been notified
